Richard Stuttard works as an ecological and environmental consultant within the expanding Ecology and Environment Team working from STRI’s head office in Bingley.
Richard has an Honours Degree in Applied Ecology from the University of Bradford, which he completed in 2003. His time at University saw Richard carried out research work on a variety of ecosystems across the UK and Europe, including extensive work regarding waste management and land reclamation and restoration.
Before completing his final year at University, Richard came to work at the STRI as part of a training year within the Cultivar Evaluation Department, where he gained valuable research experience and became proficient in grass and weed species identification. Following University, the STRI invited Richard back to take up the role of Pesticide Trials Co-ordinator within the Turfgrass Protection Department, and research work on turfgrass pests and diseases.
Having worked closely with the Ecology and Environment Team over the last four years on projects such as producing Environmental Statements as part of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s) for proposed golf course extensions and the production of hole by hole golf course wildlife booklets, Richard has now made a permanent move into the Team.
Since his move to the Ecology and Environment Team Richard has helped carry out Environmental Impact Assessments, developed waste management initiatives and is undertaking field assessment work on golf courses throughout the UK. Richard in 2008 is working with Natural England and Swansea council to safeguard against watercourse pollution arising from a new rugby pitch and housing development.
