Dr. Gordon McKillop BSc (Hons), PhD, MBA, MI Hort

Chief Executive

Gordon was appointed CEO in 2000 and in this capacity works on a wide range of issues covering all aspects of the STRI’s advisory and research services.

He began his career in ADAS as an advisory entomologist and then moved on to undertake research into wildlife behaviour, ecology and management, ultimately as part of the Central Science Laboratory (CSL) at York. He has a PhD from Reading University in applied zoology and more recently obtained a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Henley Management College. His final role within CSL was as a business development manager, using the skills obtained from his MBA, to bring in non-governmental funding into that organisation. During the 1990s, he regularly worked with the STRI and BIGGA on ecological matters on golf courses and the rationale for his appointment to STRI was to use this combination of scientific advisory, research and business development and management skills to lead the organisation into the 21st Century.

He is a keen observer of all sports and a participant of a few. He plays tennis and represented Glasgow schools at badminton in the distant past although more recently has won veterans’ tournaments in Harrogate where he lives with his wife and three teenage children, the three of whom he can still easily beat at badminton.
